Cool your heels, Toots

Do you ever feel like you bite off more than you can chew?

Do you love to say ‘yes!’ ‘absolutely,’ ‘fan-fucking-tastic,’ or ‘oki-doki-artichoki’?

Do you take on so many projects, you forget to leave time for, oh I don’t know, yourself?

No?…yea, me either…I think in my last post I kind of jinxed myself…

It definitely reminded me that I’m in this for the long con though. By ‘this’ I mean…well life, but also growing as an artist, and figuring out how to turn a passion into a business. I need to do things slow and steady, be ok with making mistakes, learning, and building a good foundation rather expecting things to balance nicely right away.

But oh, how I love when things work out just the right way.

August had me in a headlock. If I wasn’t doing something F-U-N (i.e. glow-ball golfing with in-laws, celebrating a best friend’s engagement, and seeing the eclipse totality at the family reunion) I was in an F-U-N-K. No mistake about it, that one letter makes a BIG difference, K?

So this month, I’m taking things s-l-o-o-o-w-er-ish.

I’m trying to be #mindful of more than whatever bright shiny thing draws my attention that moment, and making time to create some space between myself and this big, crazy, loud, beautiful, but draining world.

I’m doing that by painting more, learning from people I admire, working out, making time for yoga, eating healthy, but still always saving room for dessert.

Well writing all of this has been very theraputic, but let’s see if the proof is in the puddin’, Puddin’.

Want to try? Here’s something I’ve been practicing more…

Turn off your audiobook, remove your earbuds, and look up from your phone when your walking down the street. Just keep walking. Looking straight down doesn’t count, eyes up! Don’t freak out, there’s no need to make eye contact and shake hands with each person you pass (I’m in DC, and personal bubbles are a THING, so don’t touch mine!). Just keep your eyes straight ahead or slightly above that big honkin’ crown of yours. Now, walk.

You don’t realize what a habit you’ve made, or how hard it is to break, until you start seeing.

Confessions to my side piece…

I wouldn’t typically do this… I mean grand gestures, flash dance mobs, and airing my dirty laundry in public isn’t really my go to move, but in this situation I feel it’s necessary. I know our relationship is new, but I really see this going somewhere…so I want to be honest.

You’re my side piece.

Not only that, but your the side piece, to my side hustle.  Actually it’s my passion…but things got all twisted up between my love of creating, and a need to eat and have a roof over my head.

So now I’m here…with you. The side piece, to my side hustle…

I know, I haven’t been the most consistent person with my time, but I’m just, you know, figuring some things out right now. Like mailchimp, society 6, instagram, and etsy; not to mention creating new work! Don’t forget, I’m doing it for us. Hang in there!

What I’m saying is, this is my pinky swear. I promise to post once a week, every Friday unless I am on vacation, in a sugar induced coma, or facing the zombie apocalypse.

Every Friday I’ll have updates on new work, my progress with laying the foundation for my creative adventure, and any awesome resources I come across along the way. I’m also hoping to include some fun process videos, product promotions, and even a couple tutorials.

For my first step toward consistency, I wanted to include the first printable I ever made, a weekly scheduler. You can get it for FREE by using the code ‘weekly’ to unlock the PDF. I still use this every week at my full-time job to keep track of all my daily to-do’s. It also works great as a template for anyone into bullet journaling!

DOWNLOAD YOUR FREE PRINTABLE HERE!!

Now please, go forth, get organized, and be productive.

If you have a passion, side hustle, or just a hobbie you love, leave a comment! Let’s build a community to cheer each other on, and help each other out! I’ll read and respond to every comment!

I’m Lily, and I have no idea what I’m doing

I’m an artist located near Washington D.C. and I have been trying to write this post since Monday. Why did it take so long, you ask?

Well, aside from my own internal struggle of putting not just my artwork, but also my thoughts out there for everyone to judge (what if no one likes me!?). I have been utterly paralyzed by the massive amount of information out there. Despite all the Skillshare videos, youtube tutorials, and thousands of articles telling me how to:

Write the BEST POST EVER,

Get a million loyal followers overnight,

and of course

Avoid the pitfalls EVERY new blogger faces…

I have yet to find something that provides a copy/past insert of what I want to express, with my exact tone, in a concise manner, all rolled up nicely in a post of 500 words or less.

So, the point is… I’ve created this in the hopes of sharing my work, helping others with theirs, maybe including a few images of by fur babies, and telling you, internet friends, my experiences of getting some of the things I make out of my home, and in to someone else’s. Maybe even yours!

Now just since you made it all the way through that…Here is a picture of my newest coffee cup. It get’s the party going before the coffee even kicks in.

Capture

So share your ideas, thoughts, experiences, and what you’d like to see in the future! I’ll be sure to respond to everyone and take all suggestions seriously.
